Toilet Roll Tube Robots

By | February 19, 2017

Regular readers, will be aware that we love a good toilet roll tube craft in our house. We never throw them away, as their such a great crafting resource, there is so much you can make from a toilet roll tube. If you’re doubting this, have a look at my Princess Leia!

We haven’t been as good since Christmas, we’ve been quite busy, and doing lots of other things. So, today, we decided to have a pyjama day, and get stuck into some baking, and crafting. The Boy wanted to do robots, has we’ve got some silver paint he wanted to try.

They look awesome now they are finished. Possibly my new favourite toilet roll tube craft.

You will need:

  • 4 Toilet roll tubes
  • Googly eyes
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Coloured paper
  • Coloured pens
  • Scissors
  • PVA glue

Firstly, paint your toilet roll tubes. Silver looks amazing for robots, but anything metallic, or even black, could work equally well.

While these are drying, cut out 4 rectangles of coloured paper. Using your felt tip pens, or paints, draw on some “buttons”. We just went for some random squares and circles or all different shapes and sizes.

Once the tubes are dry, use PVA glue, to stick the button rectangles on the the bottom half of the tubes.

Glue on some googly eyes, and draw a mouth with a coloured pen, or marker.

Next, using a sharp pen or pencil, poke a hole in the tube where you want the arms. We’ve got a massive pack of pipe cleaners, including some metallic colours, so we chose these. Push the pipe cleaner through the holes, and bend them into shape. I wrap them round my finger to create a spiral, and then just move them into position.

They look really cool, I’m incredibly impressed with how well they turned out.

  • Yay. Love these. I will give these a go. I did attempt a space rocket from toilet roll tubes and few days ago but it went horribly wrong.. ha

    • Lol, how?!

      • I don’t even no. It was going so well, then it was just a toilet roll tube covered in vast amounts of tape. My brother in law ended up attempting one and it was way better than mine. Molly keeps talking about wanting to fly to the moon in a rocket.. so I think I am going to have to attempt it again in the near future! Please make some so I can copy hahaha

        • Haha will do! We had a space phase so I can do lots of spacey things
