Homemade Peanut Butter Hummus

Is that how we spell hummus? I really want to put an “o” in it somewhere. Humous? Autocorrect is alright with both, which is weird if you consider all of the actual real words that it won’t have. But anyway, Peanut Butter Hummus.

Peanut Butter Hummus and Breadsticks

I really like Hummus. I won’t go as far as love, but I like the flavour and texture, I like that you can put plenty of other bits in it to change the taste and I like that it’s pretty healthy. I’m also generally a big fan of dipping. I like a dip. For me, Peanut Butter Hummus is great to dip pitta bread and breadsticks into. I recently discovered these sweet chilli thins from Aldi which are great too. It’s also pretty good on a sandwich, as a spread. With halloumi and roasted red pepper.

So, yes, I like hummus. But, I rarely buy it because no one else eats it. So, I made some, and Bobsy ate it all. She’s absolutely obsessed with my Peanut Butter Hummus. If she see’s anything dippable she says, “Hummus butter?’ I’m pretty sure she thinks it’s a special breadstick butter.

Hummus

Now I’m making it all the time and we’re going through giant boxes of breadsticks every week! Hummus is super easy to make, but there is an ingredient that I struggle with. The rest we’ve usually got in, and chickpeas are about 40p. But, traditional Hummus recipes call for tahini, which is thick paste made from sesame seeds. You can, of course, make your own, but I tend not to have bags of sesame seeds lying around either. I have however found that peanut butter makes a pretty good substitute.

I don’t like peanut butter, none of us does, and yet there’s always at least two jars of it in our fridge. This is because I don’t like it. So, every time I need some for a recipe I think “oh we won’t have that, we don’t like it” and I buy more. Every. Single. Time. Yes, I should learn to check the fridge. It does, however, mean that we can make Peanut Butter Hummus all of the time. And we do.
